MG Ramachandran – Marudur Gopalan Ramachandran aka “MGR” was a famous actor and politician of India, he was born on 17 January 1917 in Navalpittia, Kandy Sellan (currently near the border of Sri Lanka). He was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1977 to 1987 till his death. He died on December 24, 1987.

He always did good to the poor, needy and deprived people in his life, he started the “Poshan Mid-Day Meal Scheme”. He also built primary and secondary schools for the children of people working as technicians in Kollywood. She also did many works for the interests of women such as starting special bus service, Mother Teresa Women’s University and Tamil Nadu University Institute. Ramachandran had also provided economic and basic amenities for natural calamities like floods and droughts.
He was a great personality who used to spend the income from Thai magazine, The Anna newspaper, Sathya and Mgyer Picture Film Studios for public welfare and charity. At that time, when there was a war between India and China in 1962, MGR was the first Indian to donate money to the war fund.
Personal Life –
MG Ramachandran had three marriages in his lifetime, the first two wives died prematurely, the last wife Janaki Ramachandran took over the reins of AIADMK after MGR’s death.
Death–
Mg Ramachandran had kidney problems over time, due to which he had to go to the hospital many times, the problem increased when he was admitted to a downstate in Brooklyn, US due to kidney failure in the year 1984, this year he also underwent a kidney transplant. He lost his illness in 1987 and died on December 24, 1987.

- In 1960, M G Ramachandran was supposed to receive the Padma Shri award but he refused.
- MGR received the award for his good role in the film “Rickshawakaran” in 1972.
- He also received doctoral degrees from Madras University and World University.
- He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1988.
