Madhubala was born on 14 February 1933 in Delhi, India. In childhood, his name was Mumtaz Jehan Dehlvi, after the film ‘Neel Kamal’, his name was read from Mumtaz to Madhubala. His father’s name was Ataullah Khan and his father’s name was Ayesha Begum. His father was from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in then Pakistan, his father had 11 children, out of which Madhubala was in fifth place. It is said that his father used to work in a tobacco factory, after losing his job, his father moved to Mumbai where Madhubala was born.
Madhubala’s three sisters and two brothers were killed in the ‘Dock Expansion’ in 1944, the rest of the family survived because they went to see the local cinema.
